A very happy new year to you all!  I hope you are feeling up-beat and ready for anything and have enjoyed a holiday over the last few weeks.  This time of year is all about family and friends and I was very pleased to be invited to photograph an incredibly special, 85th birthday celebration for which family had gathered from all four corners of the globe to be with the birthday girl.

The extremely glamorous 85 year old (you'd never guess it) had two of her children, four of her grandchildren and one great-grandchild in attendance.  Pretty amazing, especially considering they had travelled from as far away as Israel and Canada to be with her.  It was a suitably rowdy affair, with old family jokes and jibes in abundance!  Before the shoot, I had asked Ruth (in the front row,  you many recognise her and baby Aya from here!) to give me a list of family groupings, so I tried my best to organise everyone into groups without interrupting the flow of catching up, drinking and eating!

This is a particularly special photo - I love seeing the family resemblance carried through four generations.

From the oldest to the youngest.  I think the photo in the bottom right of the four above looks like a blessing from a great-grandmother to her beloved great-granddaughter.

Ha ha ha!  Don't we all treasure those, "Mum, Dad, stop embarrassing me!" memories?  It's important to capture at least one on camera!

Of course, a party wouldn't be a party without a cake and the birthday girl gamely sang along with, "Happy birthday to meeeeee," and blew out her candles!  I left this happy group to really get into the swing of things and could still hear the sound of music and laughter all the way down the street.  I hope I have parties like this when I'm 85!
